Challenge nr 2!
Challenge number 2!
Hey Dorky!
I can’t believe the colours you named! I mean orange and
pink and then you tell me I am not allowed to use my Ecolines. Anyway! Welcome
to Challenge number 2! You finally stamped out samples of the stamps sets I
send you for your Birthday! They were mostly the ones from Craft Sensations
that I got in Action. (Yes, your new stack of stamps is growing…) So that is
why I thought maybe it would be easier if we picked out a stamp set for each
other, since I have them too, to make something.
The original plan was to use the stuff we sent to each other
to make something, but uuumm… I need to clean up my craft area… (Some sort of
craft bomb explodes when I work, I never realized when it went off…), but I did
that and it didn’t stay clean! That challenge is for another time!
So I picked out a stamp set that I love to use for you and
you picked out one for me. Also we named some materials, colours and stuff to
use. (Like unicornpoop: glitter for you. It’s your fault though, you said you
had a lot!)
You gave me the next things: The stamp set (windmill one, bit of a Dutch view), a
sentiment die (doesn’t matter what it says), the colours: orange, pink, white,
purple and blue. Some watercolour paints, a compass, gem stickers and twine. Of
course you heard my reaction to the first two colours, our friendship was on a
very thin thread…! I am not allowed to use Ecoline, cause you clearly hate
me. And Pythagoras knows what I will do with a compass… Or the twine... (It worked out! HAHA!) Oh and lastly, I have to make a
card. Which is something you usually do. I would have gone for an art journal
page… Or maybe ATC, but a card it is. You get to do the journal page.
I decided to collect materials first. I went and looked at
what I had. Of course I took out watercolouring palettes and inks first!

One thing I knew, I wanted to make an A5 sized card, so I
had enough space to work. A6 size would have bugged me! I wasn’t sure what I
would do with the stamping, one of the idea was fussy cutting the stamps I made
so I could layer them. The other was to stamp it in a way it looked like a
landscape and colour it in. Of course I realized I had to use a compass… I don’t
think I used one since I had to make a circle for Math class in secondary
school! Oh and the twine… Which I have lots of to use to decorate presents and
snail mail wih!
The other thing that bugged me was the colours you picked
out… I couldn’t make sense of them when you named them. Pink, orange, purple,
blue and white. To be fair when you said orange, then pink I was sooooo lost! I
honestly didn’t know what do! I mean those two colours work well together, but
uumm… the stamps made it hard. The purple and blue made me feel a bit better!
At least I could use that for the sky or water. Plus I took the archival inks
in the colours you named and of course the black in too. One thing I knew I would do was to emboss the words Hello
Love so it would shine!
Anyway let me tell you what I did.
I took out two types of cardstock paper from Craft
Sensation, I love using them. They have a nice linen structure, which makes it
look more like fabric than paper. I used the dry-based one as the card, folded
it in two. I wanted to use the metallic linen one for the front, it has a nice pearlescent
shine to it.
Now both papers are not watercolour, I have used them in
mixed media before, but never used the watercolours on it. So I started with a
sample page. I tried every colour on one page. I decided to go with the van
Gogh palette from Royal Talens (same company who makes the Ecolines!)
Unfortunatly I don’t have any purples in any of these palates, I tried to mixed
them, but did not like the result much.
I embossed the word dies I had. Two layers of clear
embossing powder. I ended up burning the word love, so I went back to do the
same to hello… (I got distracted by messages my sister was sending).
Next I decided to start stamping out the birds on top of the
page to see how it would look. In black, cause that is the colour I usually use
for stamping. I decided that I could use some blue around the birds! Used both
of the blues. (I should have taken a close up photo of the stamps...)
Oh and because I forgot my acrylic block I had to be
creative. The mug did not help, so I ended up using the cap of the inkpad to
stamp things. Later I just used my fingers to push in the stamps…
I added some blue to the birds to see how it would look.
I stopped and looked at the compass, to figure out what I
can do with it. Besides circles! Then I realized I could use it to get a half
circle… I picked out a spot, didn’t like it and re-did the circle a bit more to
the middle. I wasn’t sure what I would do, but I was glad I used the compass!
I decided to the lower part orange dark yellow, so it would
look like the sun.
When I was happy with that I decided to stamp more images. I
looked at them, decided where to put the stamps, which ones to use as well as the words. When I was
happy I started to stamp them. Using the different ink colours I have!
This is how it looked when I was done stamping!
This is when I realised I have to use twine and the stone stickers...
After I did that I put some double sided tape behind to stick it to the double folded paper (or you know, bigger card!)
This is how it ended up looking. Because of the twine the words ended up being next to each other. I really want a 'sweetie' die so I can make HELLO SWEETIE die cuts
It looked a bit too boring so I added some white details with my white gel pen! Which made it look just that bit better!
Some detail photos:
Oh and the inside had to have some decoration too, slightly simpler than the outside
as well as some of the details!
So I love how it turned out. Thank you for pushing my limits and making me think in a different way. Thank you for picking orange and pink together, because for some reason they work well together. Even if it is two of the colours I prefer not to use! (Besides I am going to see enough orange when the fifa cup starts again...)
What will the next challenge be!? Oh and anybody can come up with an idea!
Oh and another thing, Ramadan has started (Some people will start tomorrow, moon hasn't been seen...) and I am excited to see how I will go this year. Since I have been feeling much better mentally!
Have a good day dear(s)! Mwaaaah (that's a loud kiss sound) ST.
It cracks me up that after all we have been through together it's the instruction to use pink and orange that makes you consider ending our friendship! But you can't. You're stuck with me. Bwahahahah
ReplyDeleteAs I said when I saw the sneak peaks of your card, it is beautiful. Congratulations. I'm glad it was a challenge because that's what these things should be - they should encourage us to do different things.
Ok, Going to go write up my entry now. *hugs*
You still owe me a phone... We will review the friendship again when I get that phone. Okay?
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you!
